As a part of PYP we were able to hold two events.
National Schools Conference
We held the first National Schools Conference in the UK, which aimed towards the:
- Training of teachers on the harmful practices of “honour” based violence, forced marriage and female genital mutilation,
- Encouraging schools to have safeguarding policies which are appropriate for detecting and responding to harmful practices
We also held a European conference in London on 1st June at the Amnesty International Human Rights Action Centre, entitled ‘Why every professional needs to be equipped to safeguard against harmful practices’.
The conference was attended by professionals working with the public, including in
- Mental Health
- Social Work
- Voluntary Sector
Participants were able to hear real case studies from specialist organisations working with women and girls at risk of “honour” based violence, forced marriage, female genital mutilation across Europe. Participants also learnt about good and bad practice and heard from Public Sector leaders about the importance of continuing professional training.
